Stephan Koch
MY WORK
German native Stephan Koch is a jazz singer and a pedagogical and motivational psychologist and coach with a B.Sc. from the Universität zu Köln.
He specializes in Self Determination Theory, which addresses the motivation behind the choices people make and focuses on the degree to which an individual's behaviour is self-motivated and self-determined. His clients learn to engage creativity and maximize resilience for sustained optimal performance.
Stephan’s experience with potential-driven evaluation and coaching for gifted adolescents and young adults directly informs his work with leadership and executives. He believes that the voice is the most direct way of getting in touch with ourselves. Using his own experiential framework and methodology, he uses voice as a tool for strengths and values-based performance enhancement. He works to uncover people’s innate talents and engage them proactively in their learning process, in order to empower them to take ownership of their own development.
For many years, Stephan directed experiential circus-based camps for primary and second-level schools throughout Germany, as well as workshops and training programs for teachers. In 2016 he created an innovative educational program for children and adolescents living in refugee camps in Cologne.
In 2019 Stephan launched Kompass, a consulting partnership offering development and skills building workshops and coaching for young adults.
“To Sing is to Be – both the easiest and most difficult thing in the world. I believe that only by being ourselves we can live our lives truly and fully, that only by living and working from who we are we are able to actualize our potential in the world.”
A life-long lover of music and performance, Stephan is a graduate of Power of Voice and pursues ongoing jazz vocal and singing studies HfMT Köln and as a student of the Roy Hart voice work. He is currently performing with several founding members of the theatre in the production Zauber, directed by Ian Magilton.
Stephan speaks German, English and French.
